Who represents young scientists in Europe?

In this portal, the word ‘young’ refers to the first career stages of researchers, not to age. Deriving from theEuropean Framework for Research Careers, we use the term ‘first stage researcher (R1)’, or, more colloquially predoc for researchers working on their PhD theses, irrespectively of their legal and contractual status. Predocs are also known as PhD students, research students, doctoral candidates or early stage researchers. Postdocs’ (in the European Framework for Research Careers ‘experienced researchers (R2)’) are researchers that have successfully defended their PhD theses, irrespective of legal and contractual status.
